How the Experimental HipHop and Electronic Music of the 2010s Shaped and Reflected Aspects of our Modern Society
(Introduction to Sound, May 2021)
The prompt for my final project in my Introduction to Sound course was open ended, so I wanted to create a RadioLab-style audio piece that delved into the experimental hip hop and electronic music scene of the past decade, and their impact on the art and music of today. What I really enjoyed about RadioLab is that the pieces are enjoyable to listen to from both a sound design perspective, as well as being well done in their storytelling. The piece exercised not only the sound design skills that I have been building throughout the course, but also my ability to explain a concept thematically, and - most importantly - not make the two clash apart.
Mistakes
(Introduction to Sound, March 2021)
For my Midterm for Introduction to Sound, I was instructed to make a video based on an excerpt from an assigned reading. The reading that I was given discussed the act of making mistakes when creating art, and how mistakes can often lead to unique and experimental art ideas that would've never been ventured had they done their task perfectly. For my piece, my character is recording a sound for a video using a drinking glass, but accidentally drops the glass instead. However, rather than get caught up in his mistake, he decides to use the audio to create something entirely different but successful nonetheless.
Sound Story
(Introduction to Sound, March 2021)
For this piece, my assignment was to create a 2-3 minute short story utilizing the skills I have learned throughout my class. My piece revolves around a businessman who is so hyper-focused on his financial stability that he is completely void of any other personality traits. His days are filled with a repetitive daily routine and very little critical thinking, and he has few objectives outside of maintaining a comfortable living atmosphere.
